For a profile picture of a different kind

Photo / image must be stored on your computer as a jpg file.
Go to your My Yahoo -! Then click on the site - my site.
Click here - in the facial area.
Click on Change my picture - Upload the photo you want on your computer, click Use - use selected photo
And then come back here, go to your profile - change information - Image Usage Profile - preview page & *. Ok
For personal avatar: start here: http://profile.yahoo.com
... ► Send a JPG image (s)
... ► Click on the image to use.
BACK TO THE WEB SITE AND: http://answers.yahoo.com
Select the avatar on YA site: CLICK
... ► Your current avatar or YA name
... ► "Edit my info" next to your avatar.
... ► avatar to use.
Preview ... ► "(below), then click OK.
Note: Not everyone can make their profile photo shows Yahoo for some reason.
